Site diary and daily report with to-date totals and schedule progress

One page per day. Copy yesterday, change the numbers, add the photos and close the day. The diary keeps the running totals, turns the work into schedule progress, counts weather delay days and prints the report in the Korean, Japanese or US order.

What the tool does

A daily report records who and what was on site, what was done, the weather and anything that went wrong. It is also evidence: in a dispute about delays, the daily reports are read next to the schedule and the letters. The tool keeps one page per day and does the arithmetic that is usually done by hand.

How to use it

  1. Open the schedule on the Activities tab: a schedule saved by the workjigs schedule tool, an MS Project XML file, a Primavera XER file or a CSV list of activities. Add the unit and planned quantity of the activities you measure.
  2. Each evening open today and press Copy previous day: the workers and equipment of the last diary day are copied, and yesterday's plan for tomorrow becomes today's work list. Change the numbers.
  3. Add photos and a line of description for each. Fill the weather.
  4. Look at the checks on the right (no work, no weather, a workers line without a number, a photo without a description, a weather delay without a note), then close the day.
  5. On Friday export the period PDF for the supervisor and the progress file for the schedule.

From the diary to the schedule

For each activity the first day with work is its actual start, the day a work line is marked finished is its actual finish, and the percent complete is the quantity to date over the planned quantity, or the percent you typed. Export the progress and the schedule file comes back with these values and the data date set to the day after the period: open it in the workjigs schedule tool, MS Project or Primavera P6 to recalculate.

Period summary

For any period the tool shows workers by date and trade, the cost of the day when you enter your own rates per worker-day and per equipment day or hour, and a weather table by month: diary days, weather delay days, days with rain or wind above the limits you set, and the rain total. The period workbook carries the same tables with formulas, the materials log with quantities to date, the work log and the progress of every activity.

Forms

The photo sheet puts three photos on a page with number, capture time and description.

Where the data stays

The diary and the photos are kept in this browser on this device. Photos are reduced to 1,600 pixels. Export the backup file regularly: it contains the photos and opens on another device. Weather is not fetched automatically; enter the observed values or those of the national weather service for the site.

Limits

The diary does not replace the contract's own reporting rules: check which form, which signatures and which period the contract asks for. Percent complete from quantities is only as good as the planned quantities you enter. Two people editing the same diary on two devices are not merged; exchange the backup file instead.
